Children and Young People’s Bill

Children and Young People’s Bill

We have been supported the Government’s work on Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC) since its publication in 2008 making sure that children and young people experiencing domestic abuse receive the most appropriate support.

The latest component of this work is the Scottish Government’s proposal for introduction of the Children and Young People’s Bill, which aims to strengthen the GIRFEC approach.

We have closely analysed the proposals, and worked with our member groups to develop a robust proposal to the consultation, which closes on 25 September 2012.

We have focused in particular on the issues around Children and Young People’s Rights in line with the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), and the implementation of the GIRFEC approach, which looks at multi-agency working, outcome reporting, having a ‘named person’ for each child, and the Child’s Plan – a proposal to place a duty on public bodies to ensure that all statutory planning and assessment relating to the child’s wellbeing is brought together in a plan.
