Did you know?
  • Almost 1 in 4 14 years olds have been forced to do something sexual by someone they were dating (Bliss 2009)
  • As many as 1 in 3 young women have experienced dating abuse (NSPCC 2009)
  • No-one deserves to be abused. Everyone deserves to have a healthy and happy relationship, whatever your age.

What is Dating Abuse?

Dating abuse is when someone who you are having a relationship with, or have had a relationship with, makes you feel scared or they have hurt you.You might have just met, or you might have been going out with each other for a while. You might be in school, college, university or working. Dating abuse is mainly perpetrated by young men and victims are mainly young women, however it can happen in same sex relationships and to young men too. Dating abuse is a pattern of ongoing behaviour that makes you feel scared or frightened.

The following information sheet has been put together for young people who want to find out more about dating abuse: Download Information for young people on dating abuse.
