National Domestic Abuse Delivery Plan for Children and Young People
The Scottish Government has published an ambitious 3 year action plan to improve responses to children and young people. We have made sure that children and young people are listened to and heard and that their active participation is a key element of government strategy. As part of our lobbying we have four dedicated Children's Workers, who are working hard to ensure the priorities in the Delivery Plan are implemented. Supporting the Participation of Children and Young People
SWA has been heavily involved in supporting the participation of children and young people in national policy. We recently hosted the "Our Rights, Our Lives" event in September. Over 80 young people from across Scotland come together at Edinburgh International Climbing Arena to participate in a day focused on children's rights and domestic abuse. Throughout the summer, SWA supported a group of 11 young people to plan the event.
During a three day residential in July, the group planned an exciting programme for the day, which included exploring children’s rights and domestic abuse issues through a range of exciting workshops including dance, animation, urban art, DJ and song writing, drama and fashion. Of course, the event would not have been complete without the chance to try out the facilities at the venue, so climbing and abseiling were also on offer for the more adventurous! SWA is in the process of producing a report on the event.
