National Outcome Evaluation Project

Scottish Women’s Aid has recently completed a national outcome evaluation project to assess the impact of Women’s Aid support services across the whole of Scotland.On the 10th of March we launched “Changing Lives:  Outcome Evaluation of Women’s Aid Support Services in Scotland.” We’ve always believed, based on women’s feedback and the changes we’ve seen, that Women’s Aid support services make a positive difference to women’s lives.   The findings from our national outcome evaluation prove this to be the case.   Nearly 400 women throughout Scotland shared their views about the help and support they needed from Women’s Aid groups and told us how their lives changed as a result of the support they received.

Funding For Women's Aid services

Scottish Women's Aid has carried out an annual survey of the funding of Women’s Aid services in Scotland since 2008. This report presents the findings of the third annual survey carried out in July 2010 and presents the key findings from a comparative analysis of the results of the surveys over the 3 year period 2007 – 2010.

Census Day 2010

On the 22nd September 2010, we undertook a census day snapshot of all affiliated refuges accross the country. 737 women and 451 children and young people  contacted Women’s Aid on this day. 40 women and 41 young people asked for refuge accommodation, but no spaces could be found for 16 women and 20 young people.

Research on the Gender Equality Duty

Research published by Scottish Women’s Aid has found a disappointing lack of commitment in some of Scotland’s local authorities to tackling violence against women (VAW).  You can find the full report by clicking this link. The analysis reiterates our previous concerns on how national policy is led, implemented and monitored at a local level. Through analysis of local authorities’ Gender Equality Schemes (GES) it was found that, across the 32 authorities across Scotland:

  1. 9 GESs failed to cite addressing VAW as a stated priority;
  2. Only 14 GESs have more than one objective relating to violence against women and indicate how these objectives will be met;
  3. Only 10 GESs refer to children and young people who experience/witness violence, and only 5 contain objectives relating specifically to children and young people.
