2011
The Scottish Government’s draft budget for 2012-13 will be published in September 2011. The Finance Committee has agreed that in it’s scrutiny of the budget they will focus on the extent to which the Scottish Government is encouraging a more preventative approach to public spending. Scottish Women's Aid has made a submission highlighting that priority should be given to the continuation of the Scottish Government funding which supports Violence against Women work targeted towards programmes and services which prevent violence or which immediately intervene and assist victims of violence. These programmes reduce the likelihood of reoccurrence and the long term impact of violence, saving costs elsewhere in the system by decreasing the need for more expensive long term health care and criminal justice costs.
